Jean Fraser's primary focuses are community and independent photography. Being a social feminist greatly influenced her work. Her participation in OutRage, and her protests against Section 28 also were big influences. Many of her photographs appeared in the gay and lesbian press. She worked in the voluntary sector in the 1970s, for example in Women's Aid. She began studying photography in her 30s.
