| Activity | 1956 while in Bournemouth Westbrook saw American jazz musician Lionel Hampton's band perform 1958 while studying painting at Plymouth College of Art, Westbrook formed his first band an octet. John Surman, Lou Gare and Keith Rowe joined the band 1962 moved to London 1962-1963 Westbrook continued studying at Hornsey School of Art 1968 Westbrook's band made its international debut at the Montreux Festival 1968-1969 was a presenter and commentator on British Jazz on BBC Radio One 1970s-1980s Westbrook's compositions and performances were broadcast by the BBC 1973 Westbrook formed the Mike Westbrook Brass Band with Phil Minton. Shortly afterwards Kate Westbrook joined the band Mar 1977 the Mike Westbrook Brass Band, Henry Cow and Frankie Armstrong merged to form the Orckestra. They performed until May 1978 1979 formed sixteen piece orchestra for The Cortege 1982 The Cortege toured England for the Arts Council's Contemporary Music Network Oct 1983 Westbrook premiered his 'After Smith's Hotel - The Young Person's Guide To The Jazz Orchestra' at Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh |
