Description | 35mm colour slides of pre-production artist impressions, by illustrator Richard McKenna, highly detailed and produced in storyboard form. Each piece of artwork has been numbered chronologically by the artist in the top left corner [archivist has pencilled these numbers on slide frame for easy identification]. The artwork includes ideas for the Special Effects sequences within the film with space craft, planet Jupiter, planet Saturn and Moon terrain with designs for TMA site (Tycho Magnetic Anomoly-1). In slides four to seven these ideas also show the 'pit' as a rectangular shaped hole in the planets terrain and slides eight to thirty contain designs of space craft entering the pit. Frame number ninety-seven has a design of space craft in the form of flat disc [possible idea for Space Station 5]. There are also artwork concepts for the conference room on the moonbase and the lounge area on Space Station 5.
The slides have the date impressed in the slide mount. Numbers one to seventy-three are dated May 1965, seventy-four to ninety-two are dated June 1965, ninety-three to one-hundred and fourteen are dated July 1965,
The numbered artwork missing from this group of slides are thirteen, forty-four, eighty-nine, ninety-seven, these can be found with thirty duplicated slides from the Houston box These are duplicates of some slides Richard McKenna's artwork in file SK/12/sl/4/2/2/1.
