A paper note has been taped to the front of the letter reading, 'DOWN BUT NOT OUT. Panels missing are No. 60, 51, 49, 40 + 23'. An additional handwritten note is included, noting the other resources available.
Also included are pages from an exhibition comments book.
This exhibition was made by Andrew Dewdney, Claire Grey and Andy Minnion, and the residents of Rufford Street Hostel, North London.
The book, 'Down But Not Out: Young People, photography and images of homelessness' (Trentham Books Ltd, 1994), explains that the exhibition was lauched on the concourse of Kings Cross Station in Central London. The book explains that photography workshops were one of a variety of activities offered at the hostel, as part of an education programme, set up by the Islington Adult Education Institute. The exhibition was developed as a joint production of the Cultural Studies Team of Cockpit Arts Workshop, working with the educational co-ordinatory from the hostel. The book also notes that 'Down but not out' was the last project run with a group of young people by the Cultural Studies Team at Cockpit, and that all the educational agencies involved were run by the Inner London Education Authority (ILEA) which was aboloshed by parliament March 1990. |
