Title'Conduction'
DescriptionThis file sits at the intersection of LMC/1 Office Records and LMC/5 Events as it contains documentation produced as a byproduct of a tour produced by the London Musicians' Collective for Contemporary Music Network Tours.

The tour consisted of American composer, conductor and cornetist Lawrence D. 'Butch' Morris performing with the London Skyscraper Orcherstra which was put together for specifically for this occasion. Throughout the tour, workshops with Butch Morris were also offered which explored conducted improvisation.

The Skyscraper Orchestra can be considered as the precedent to the London Improvisers Orchestra which continues performing monthly and can feature as many as 40 different members. A group - instigated by Steve Beresford, Evan Parker and Ian Smith, later joined by Caroline Kraabel and Pat Thomas - decided to keep the orchestra together after the tour, in order to contine exploring the musical possibilities that were opened up by performing in such a large group.
