| Description | Material in this subfonds relates to the Vestey project that Phillip Knightley worked on first as a series of articles for The Sunday Times where he was a staff writer. The articles were later turned into a book called 'The Vestey Affair' and republished in 1993 with the title 'The Rise and Fall of the House of Vestey.'
This subfonds consists of three boxes of general research (news-/press-clippings, handwritten notes, correspondence to and concerning the Vestey family), one box of correspondence to and from Phillip Knightley, one file folder of correspondence of Letters to the Editor regarding the Sunday Times Vestey articles, and 2 files of publishing-related ephemera, including Knightley's publishing contract for the first edition of the Vestey book. There is very interesting thread of correspondence between Knightley, his editor, and his publisher's solicitors with regards to Libel and clearances, in addition to drafts -- both typed and written in longhand -- of both the Sunday Times articles and the chapters the articles later became. |
