DescriptionBased on the novel 'Supertoys last all summer long', by Brian Aldiss, AI is mix of fairy tale folklore and sci-fi fantasy, and tells the story of a robot boy called David on a quest to become a real boy. Kubrick's work on the film's development and pre-production spanned 3 decades, and many writers were involved in the story treatment process. Kubrick passed the project onto Steven Spielberg to direct as he found the visual effects technology of the era not advanced enough to match his desired effect. Kubrick was a key component in the film's development and overall concept, and Steven Spielberg adhered to Kubrick's original ideas closely within the finalised film. AI was released in 2001, 2 years after Kubrick's death in 1999, with Spielberg as the writer of the screen play and the film's director.

The majority of the material covers the development and pre-production stages during the 1990s, however some material of the distribution stage has been added posthumously.
