  <dc:title>Books</dc:title>
<dc:description>The volumes were used to research subjects covered by the film's story. Some contain post-it notes where Kubrick and possibly others have marked sections of particular relevance or images for copying.

The titles cover subjects such as: weaponry; Vietnam War, including specific battles/strategies; solider and eyewitness accounts to the war and army/national conditions; details on the US and Vietnamese armies [Viet Con] structures; and Parris Island [Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Beaufort, South Carolina]. There are also copies of Gustav Hasford's novel The Short-timers on which the film is based. One copy of The Short Timers contains underlined and highlighted section with a few notes written by Kubrick. Notes stuck on to its cover read "Oct 14 82 Passages Marked" and a note to xerox [photocopy] pages 59-61 "Joker appointed Sergeant".

The books have been fully catalogued on the University's library system. To view the titles please follow http://voyager.arts.ac.uk/vwebv/searchBasic?sk=en_UK then type in 'Full Metal Jacket' in the Search For box and select 'Special Collections' in the Limit to field.</dc:description>
