Mary Ann Kennedy grew up in Chicago in the 1960s and 1970s. She studied at the Polytecnic of Central London with Victor Burgin and Simon Watney, 1978-1981 There she met Jo Spence, Jane Munro and Charlotte Pembrey, and they formed a photography collective, touring the exhibition Family, Fantasy and Photography, which had been their degree show at PCL.
