1826 The London General Trade Society of Compositors was established 1834 Merger of the London Trade Society of Compositors, London General Trade Society of Compositors forms the London Union of Compositors 1835 the News Society of Compositor merges with the London Union of Compositors 1845 the union was dissolved and absorbed by the Nationl Typographical Association forming the South Eastern District of the Association 1848 it breaks away to reform a London group established as the London Society of Compositors 1910 the London Society of Compositors had over 10,000 members Mar 1955 The society merged with the Printing Machine Managers' Trade Society and renamed the London Typographical Society 1964 The society merges with the Typographical Association to form the National Graphical Association Trade Union for people in London who were compositors. For some time employment at His/Her Majesty's Stationery Office depended on a London Society of Compositors membership. Members were issued with annual membership cards, with each year the cards changing in design. The London Society of Compositors sponsored Labour Party candidates in London in several parliamentary elections, some of which won their seat. The London Society of Compositor's membership was limited to fifteen mile radius of central London.
