She was born on February 14, 1960 in Birmingham, England. Pook graduated from the Guildhall School of Music in 1983 and studied the viola. Upon graduation, she began to tour and record with various artists including Peter Gabriel and became a member of the synth-pop group the Communards. Pook’s work spans from film and television, most notably Eyes Wide Shut and The Merchant of Venice, along with compositions for the stage and music for her group The Jocelyn Pook Ensemble. Her work has recieved numerous accolades including a BAFTA, an Olivier, and an ASCAP Award and has recieved a Golden Globe nomination, a BRIT nomination, and a BAFTA TV award. Pook continues to work for film, TV, and stage plays in addition to recording her own works, creating projects that reflect humanitarian crises (Room 2 Dream), history, and politics. She also chairs and judges prestigious music competitions, such as the BBC Proms Young Composers Competition.
