Description | Six binders labelled 'The Shining Lab Tests' containing reciepts for the development of daily rushes, almost entirely from Rank Film Laboratories Ltd., Denham, Uxbridge, Middlesex. These dated, numbered receipts are also detailed handwritten records of slate and scene number, take number(s) printed, colour levels, scene details, comments, and other information. The first series of four binders, with records for slates 1-875, correspond to the information recorded in binder labelled 'Shot Lists' in the Continuity subseries and those labelled 'Camera Sheets' in the Rushes Assessment subseries. The fifth binder is labelled 'Tests' and contains receipts for lighting tests, records of which do not appear to exist elsewhere in the collection. The sixth binder is labelled '2nd Unit' and contains receipts for filming done outside Elstree Studio, for instance at airports and at Hallorann's apartment. These sheets are often labelled BP [Back Projection]. There are also receipts from Elstree Camera Hire and a few handwritten notes. Also in this binder is a copy of a letter to Kubrick from location scout Greg MacGillivray reporting on filming in Montana and on possible locations for other scenes outside the hotel. Records for these scenes do not appear to exist elsewhere in the collection. |
