| Description | 1. In one box:
Two files of notes on slates to be used. Papers in first file: Lists of 'Exp Cut' and 'Second Choice Tapes' white and yellow lined paper; includes key with codes written next to some of the notes (DL=don't like, M=must, G=good, and so on). Papers in second file: two packets of lists with scene content, one labelled 'Shots that are in the "Work Rolls" but not int he video[...]' and one unlabelled and dated 21.4.80; also one paper marked 'Wild Tracks'.
One hardback notebook marked 'Shining Documentary Scene Breakdown Summary'. Contains summaries of scene content with slate numbers and 'VR' numbers. Some summaries are in red, some in black: a key in the front cover shows that red means 'main feature scenes (rehearsal, [?] up, shooting) and black means 'documentary "scenes"'.
Two hardback notebooks marked 'Shining Documentary Shot List Vol 1' and 'Vol 2' with the VR numbers and shot numbers and descriptions of the scene content.
One file containing folded paper found in 'Shot List Vol 2' and containing typewritten information similar to the notebooks.
2. In one box:
One binder marked 'Bills' on front and 'Slate index and choice shot description' on side, and on inside cover, 'Vivian Kubrick [Gill?]'. Contains lists of shot numbers with some highlighted; followed by sheets with columns indicating the slate number and shot number, with notes on the content of the shot or the quality of the film stock. Not all shots have notes.
One binder marked 'Shot List 21.4.80' and 'Radio/Film Clubs/5 Min/Newspaper' on side. Contains shot lists created 21.4.80 with descriptions of the scenes; similar list of 'Shots that are in the "work rolls" but not in the video experimental cut II'; handwritten lists of selected shots and notes on action; notes on which shots to select for the stars' interviews for use in radio, newspaper, and '5 minute'; handwritten and typewritten notes on how to select good shots to use; handwritten notes on submitting interviews to College Radio.
3. In one box:
Seven small notebooks with handwritten lists of shots and scenes and, frequently, notes on the content of the shot/scene or its appropriateness for use in the final documentary. These notebooks also contain to-do lists and reminders, lists of changes, doodles, and other content. One notebook is labelled 'Interviews' and only contains notes on the interviews.
Three sets of index cards. Information on index cards varies; some cards have a formal, typed scene title and technical information, and others are handwritten with information including a short description of a scene or a quote from the scene, a note of who features in the scene, a shot/scene number and/or other formal identification, or simply one word or number. |
