TitleRobert Crumb comic book collection
DescriptionThis series contains the Robert Crumb collection of Les Coleman. Whilst it is not a complete set of every comic produced by Crumb it is still a significant collection and demonstrates Coleman's impressive and dedicated interest in the artist as a comic book creator, author and illustrator.

Since Crumb was a prolific comic book artist who contributed stories, illustrations and artwork to a large number of publications those titles identified as strictly 'Robert Crumb comics' come under three categories:

i) Crumb was the sole contributor: These include titles for which Crumb authored and illustrated every story within the comic. This also includes comics which are comprised solely of Crumb illustrations. For many of these titles Crumb was essentially the sole creator, author, illustrator, editor and publisher. Other comics in this category may have been created, edited, compiled and published by other individuals but are still comprised solely of work by Crumb.

ii) Crumb was a primary collaborator and contributor: Crumb collaborated frequently throughout his career, primarily with members of his family [i.e. Aline Kominsky-Crumb and Charles Crumb] and fellow underground comic book artists [i.e. S Clay Wilson]. For the comics in this category Crumb was a primary collaborator and contributed an equal majority of work to the title as well as being accredited for creating them.

iii) Crumb was the creator: The titles in this category can be identified specifically as 'Weirdo' and 'Zap'. For both these titles Crumb contributed heavily to the early issues before giving over his responsibilities and duties for later issues. Whilst many of the later issues of 'Weirdo' and 'Zap' may feature little or no Crumb work but he still accredited as creating them.
