TitleJulie Doucet collection
DescriptionThis series comprises of material relating to the Canadian former alternative cartoonist and artist Julie Doucet acquired by Les Coleman and donated to the University of Arts London Archive and Special Collections. Coleman was a dedicated follower of Doucet's work and accumulated a significant collection of materials including comics, anthologies, art books, prints and memorabilia. Included in the collection is a complete run of Doucet's 'Dirty Plotte' comic book series, which ran between 1990 and 1998. Additionally Coleman also acquired most of Doucet's anthologised works, such as 'My New York Diary' and 'The Madame Paul Affair'.

Coleman interest in Doucet's output continued, even as the artist moved away from comic books towards more experimental work such as collage, linocuts and engravings. Here Coleman obtained books of her collected artwork which include 'Long Time Relationship', 'Elle Humour' and '365 Days: A Diary by Julie Doucet'. Demonstrating a specific interest in Doucet's artistic ability and style Coleman also sought out signed and numbered prints by the artist. Beyond comics, books and prints, Coleman also collected rare and unique Doucet collectibles, including stickers, limited edition illustrations and silkscreened mini-comics.

As well as being a dedicated fan of her work, Coleman also corresponded with Doucet on at least one occasion. Present in the collection is a print that Doucet personally sent to Coleman alongside a letter where she thanks him for his postcard and wishes him a 'Happy New Year'.
