A few of the photographs been identified as by Armet Francis, from looking at the book published under the title 'The Black Triangle', pp. 36, 50, 54- 55, 108-109.
['The Black Triangle' was first exhibited at the Photographer's Gallery, London, in 1983. A book of photographs related to the exhibition was published in 1985. It is possible it was re-exhibited at Cockpit Gallery in order to promote the publication of the book. The Cockpit exhibition list CPG/1/1 notes the exhibition appeared at Cockpit in February 1985. There is nothing in the file explicitly confirming this. However, there is promotional material from Seed publications relating to the book. The material from Seed Publications, also mentions an event in connection with the book launch at the Royal Festival Hall.]
There is also a poster for another group exhibition, 'Reflections of the Black Experience,' at Brixton Gallery [1986]. This included the artists Marc Booth, Vanley Burke, Sunil Gupta, Mumtaz Karimjee, David Lewis, Madahi, Zak Ove, Ingrid Pollard, Suzanne Roden and Armet Francis. The poster features an image by Armet Francis, which appears in the book titled, 'The Black Experience' on p. 135. This exhibition was organised by the GLC Race Equality Unit. |
