Title | 'Portraits Recognised' |
Description | This series features photographic print portraits of numerous recognisable faces, as listed in a handwritten note, taped to the inside flap of the portfolio. The list identifies: ‘Billy Graham, Kate Adie, Quentin Crisp, Ronny Wood, Marvin Gaye, Vikram Seth, Tarkovski, Jacobi, Richard O’Brian, Julian Clarey, Alexei Sayle, Les Patterson, Geoff Capes, Andy Warhol, Jarman, David Hockney,’ but many of these individuals are not featured here and instead appear in 'Portraits' (DSS/1/4).
The series contains four tissue paper/plastic wallets which store prints, negatives and contact sheets; a handwritten note on the wallet notes that these are for the Sunday Times Magazine. There is also a number of newspaper clippings (The Times and Telegraph) which feature Dick’s photographs of 'Maggy Whitehouse' (‘novelist and healer’), 'Jonathan Clark' (‘financial adviser’) and 'Ian Chapman' (‘Brighton’s Seafront Officer’).
There are two colourised prints: one is a triptych of a man which is coloured using pink, green, blue and yellow in a pop art style, another appears to be a superimposed image of Queen Elizabeth II (wearing a white dress and sash) standing under a fruit tree, where the sky has been shaded in charcoal and the fruits are coloured in pink.
Additionally, a number of 6x6 colour contact sheets have been cut up and pasted onto standard printer paper. |
