Title | Novel Outline, 1st Draft |
Description | Two typed copies of an outline for a Science Fiction story in which scientists and politicians travel from the Earth to the Moon to see a radio observatory. The text begins with the statement that "The time is 1987, when the colonisation of the moon is starting". [Probably a very early outline of how Clarke envisaged the beginning of the novel and film which were to become 2001: A Space Odyssey].
The first item [probably typed by Arthur C. Clarke] is 4 pages long and was initially entitled Across the Sea of Stars but this has been crossed out. The typescript includes numerous crossings out and additions in pen. The first two pages are on yellowed paper with a small typeface. Pages three and four are on more white paper with a larger typeface however the pages are paginated and flow in sequence.
The second item is a clean copy of the same outline with no annotations or crossings out. The text is in a column in the right hand side of the paper [possibly this text was prepared for Stanley Kubrick so with room to the left for comments]. This second item is dated 4th June 1964 |
