| Description | Photostat copy of a typewritten novel text. The document is incomplete starting from Chapter 4 Tycho Base' and covering the investigation of a pyramid on the Moon (Chapter 7) then describing astronauts investigating an anomaly on Jupiter 5 (chapter 24) to the lead astronaut Dave Bowman entering hibernation in orbit of Jupiter 5 (chapter 25). However this chapter ends with Bowman waking up and the title of chapter 26 Awakening. The text is be made up of at least three different texts one older than the other which have been merged to form one.
The earlier text is dated using the American dating format (Month/Day/Year) 13th, 14th, and 16th July 1964, and refers to a character called Bruno (usually crossed out in pen and replcaed with Floyd). A Pyramid [in the later film replaced by the black monolith] is given the title of Lucifer. This text also has page numbers at the top middle of the page.
Towards the end of the text there are two pages numbered X.5 which also had the character Bruno as Captain of the Discovery spaceship. He has been changed to Bowman in the rest of the text.
Interweaved with these texts is the larger later text where Floyd's name is printed. It is not dated and the pagination is divided into chapters and noted in the top right hand corner. These sections have been changed, the first chapter Tycho Base changes from chapter 4 to 9 [probably due to the moving of the Dawn of Man sequence to the beginning of the story] |
