The exhibition was produced by Andrew Dewdney, Dave Hampshire and Martin Lister, from the 'Department of Cultural Studies' [ILEA]. They collaborated with Ian Sillet from the English Department of Geoffrey Chaucer School, Southwark [now known as Ark Globe Academy].
There is a two-page exhibition proposal, dated 7 May 1985, an notice about the planned exhibition. [It was possibly directed towards other teachers at the school]. Also a public exhibition announcement and invitation. There are 3 copies of a brochure with an article explaining the context of the exhibition, 'how photography has been used in a secondary school and how a school has been represented in photographs'.
The brochure also credits two teachers, Norma Davies and Joanne Walton and the headmaster Mike Read. It also credits 'Cockpit Gallery Workers', 'Claire Grey, Rhonda Mason and Jude Raynor [Judith Rayner]'. Also are 5 photographic prints. 1 is a picture of the school playground and 4 reproduce exhibition panels. The panels show students from the school's 5th Year Photography Group.
They include short interviews and notes about their interests and their experiences. Not all the students are named but those that are include Roger Fleming, Sonia Harewood and Michael Enright. The students appear to be from different ethnic backgrounds. The photographs are labelled on the back 'Cockpit Gallery, Interchange Studios, 15 Wilkin Street London NW5 3NG' and 'Cockpit Gallery, Princeton St., London WC1R4AX'.
Three copies of what may have been a very simple poster or sign, reading, 'BEING AT SCHOOL'. |
