ActivityFred Hunter (1934-2012) founded the first university course in Radio Journalism in the UK. In 1977 he set up the Pre Certificate in Radio Journalism at London College of Printing (now London College of Communication). In 1982 the course was regraded to a Postgraduate Diploma.

Hunter was the first director of Independent Radio News, which led the way for 24 hour rolling news, and was one of the first assistant editors at LBC. He was also the first person to be awarded a PhD in Journalism from City University in 1984.
