| Individual or organisational biography | Felicity 'Flicky' Ann Lewis (6 March 1923-23 November 1999) attended the Cheltenham School of Art and after serving during the Second World War attended the Royal College of Art where she achieved a diploma. Lewis had worked at Conde Nast's art department, possibly at Vogue magazine, in New York City in the early 1950s under Alexander Buchanan and met Seymour Chwast, Reynold Ruffins, and Edward Sorel who were part of her working group. Interested in their work, Lewis regularly collected and acquired publications from their joint venture Push Pin Studio including their almanacks and Monthly Graphic periodical. Chwast, Ruffins and Sorel may have also sent their periodicals to Lewis due to their friendships.
Felicity Lewis's interest in graphic arts continued throughout her lifetime. In 1972 Lewis's book How to Make Presents from odds and ends was published followed in 1976 by her book Making Presents. In 1981 her book Needlepoint samplers was published.
Felicity Lewis later moved to Amberley, Gloucestershire to live near her family. She died there in 1999. |
