Individual or organisational biography | The yarn was called Helanca and was provided by a Swiss home-knitting machine company who made the Orion knitting machine. Walford was a well-known knitwear designer and was asked to design and make something using this new stretch nylon yarn.
Helanca is a type of yarn, now commonly known as Lycra®. The creation of Helanca yarn dates to the 1930s. |
