In the early 1940s, Katherine Dunham hired Maya Deren, to be her personal assistant. Deren traveled with the Katherine Dunham Dance Company, doing secretarial work, including transcribing and organising he findings from Dunhams anthropological fieldwork conducted in Haiti and other Caribbean regions during the mid-1930s. |
