DescriptionThis file contains photocopied materials documenting Maya Deren's extensive contributions to film and cultural programs. Included are a program for The Creative Film Foundation (NYC) with speakers such as John Cage and Joseph Campbell. A prospectus for a film by Deren on Egyptian material at the Metropolitan Museum, detailing how audiences might engage with Egyptian culture through cinema. Also featured are documents from the Creative Film Foundation Awards of 1957, where Deren served as both director and jury member, and various event programs, including a talk titled 'Contemporary Dance and Movement Expressed in Film,' where Deren discussed her work, as well as a 1959 'New York General Semantics' event where she presented two films and gave a lecture. The file additionally includes a timeline of Deren’s activities from 1946–1954, programs from the Centre d'Art and Haitian American Institute showcasing films by Deren and Teiji Ito, and correspondence with members of the Creative Film Foundation. Other material highlighting various lectures, screenings, literature and projects Deren was involved in.
