Individual or organisational biographyMr and Mrs Louis Bund emigrated from either Germany or Poland to London just before the outbreak of the Second World War. They established an artificial flower shop in 6 Great Marlborough Street, London, before moving to 16-18 Ramillies Street, London WI to supply the thriving wholesale trade in the area (stores, fashion boutiques, designers, TV and film companies). Mr Bund died in the early 1960s and Mrs Bund continued the business with great success through the 1970s. Mrs Bund remarried but the business began to fail, and she died in the late 1970s. Louis Bund Ltd ceased trading during 1980s.

Custodial HistoryThe charity In Kind Direct contacted the Research Office at London College of Fashion in February 2005 regarding a collection 450 boxes of fabric flowers plus a case of flower samples from Louis Bund Ltd. The college advised them on possible organisations that might be interested in buying the bulk of the collection and purchased from In Direct the salesman sample case and a tray of flowers. Over 210 boxes went to Ellie Rose Ltd and the rest went to In Kind Direct's charity partners in May 2005. Subsequently a small collection of samples of the "vintage" Louis Bund flowers were bought from Ellie Rose.
