DescriptionLetters regarding an article titled 'Made in Ealing' by John Ellis published in Screen, Volume 16, Number 1, in which Ellis critcizes Dickinson's film 'Secret People' as 'condemning a group which attempts to assassinate a fascist dictator'. The folder contains a letters of complaint to the editor of Screen and to Stuart Hall [then the director of the Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies at Birmingham University, where Ellis studied], and replies from both, a letter to Barry Salt at Slade, encouraging him to write to Screen, a letter to Dickinson from Charles Barr, and Dickinson's draft response.and two other draft letters. There is also a four-page letter to Dickinson from Ellis, responding to Dickinon's criticism. Additionally there is an incomplete draft letter to the Chairman of the British Film Institute dated 26 Sep 1977, regarding a BFI publication titled 'The Use of Film in Higher Education', and commenting of Ellis's statement.
