Title | General Post Office promotional posters |
Description | The file includes two posters advertising post office guides for Jul 1952 and Jul 1968 issued by HM Postmaster General .
The 1952 poster has a series of four large questions marks each superimposed on the other, in cream, black, yellow and black (the front one has a yellow line where the one behinds outline would be). Each has an eye and a cutting that appears like a nose and mouth. The cover of the guide is featured in red to the right of the question marks. The poster advertises the price as 2 shillings. It is signed by Eckersley in the top right hand of the poster. Measures, 73.5cm by 92cm .
The one for 1968 features a dog in white, with a black eye and the cover of the information book in red where his ear would be. Eckersley has used block primary colours of red and white that have the appearance of a collage. The background is blue. The poster advertises the price as 2 shillings and 6 pence. It is signed by Eckersley in the bottom left of the poster. Measures, 76cm by 51cm. Printed by M&M Ltd. The General Post Office ceased to be a government department in 1969, see TE/1/2 General Post Office instructional posters and TE/1/4 for Post Office posters.
