| Description | This file contains posters to advertise services and days out all signed by Eckersley. The first advertises the Cutty Sark, Greenwich and includes text about the ship as well as information about a leaflet, 'A Day Out at Greenwich'. All text is black. The image is a stylised ships lantern in black, grey and yellow. In the yellow lamp is a clipper ship in tones of black. The background is brown and has the appearance of bark. The posters image is like a collage. Dated, 1968. Measures, 101.5cm by 63.5cm.
The second advertises the opening of the Victoria Line on the London Underground. It features the slogan 'cut travelling time across London'. The image is a large white pair of open scissors, with a black block shadow. Along the right arm of the scissors is the network map of the line, with stations circled in blue and red. The open arms of the scissors form the 'V' of Victoria line across the centre of the poster. Slogans are in white text with information in black text. The background colour is blue [the same blue as used to depict the line]. A second version is the same excepting there is no map along the scissors and the background is red. Dated 1968. Measures, 10.5 cm by 63.5cm.
The third advertises the extension of the Piccadilly Line to Heathrow Airport. The image is of a red plane with the Piccadilly line emanating from its fin [in blue, the same blue as used to depict the line] in a yellow rectangle. This crosses two circles, the outer circle is smoky blue and the inner circle is blue [the top half is the same blue as the line, the bottom is lighter. The background colour is black and the text is white and grey. Dated, 1977. Measures, 102cm by 63.5cm.
The fourth poster advertises the London Transport Collection at Sion Park [now at Acton], London. The collection is of vehicles. The poster contains informational text in black. The image is of the front of a stylised steam train, the train is made up of blocks of colour: red; burgundy; smoky blue; black; light grey; khaki; mustard; and dark grey. The background colour is pale yellow ochre. Measures, 101.5cm x 63.5cm.
The fifth advertises the extension of the Central Line: 'CENTRAL LINE' in black text and 'EXTENSIONS' in red text runs at the footer. The image is of a weather cock, one arm is in red with the names of new stations coming off of it in black and the other arm and main pole is in black with a brown and red base that appears as if sponged and has the London Transport logo on it in black outline. The cockerel is in gradients of red and black, from his mouth is black text reading 'OPEN NOV 21'. The image is on an oval of pale blue sky with white boarder. The sixth advertises the lost property office, Baker Street, c1945. The office is advertised on the footer in text of brown and black and in a text box. The image lies diagonally across the page and is a gentleman's umbrella, the tip of the handle is a hound with a tear in its eye. It has a tag with the slogan 'FOR PROPERTY LOST'. The colours are tonal. The tag and Transport for London logo are in bluebell blue. The background is cream. Measures, 51cm by 73.5cm. Printed by Waterlow and Sons Ltd.
The seventh poster is signed by Eckersley and is round. The poster has the slogan 'EXACT FARE HELPS THE CONDUCTOR' in black block text, except help which is in red, 1946. The image features two one penny coins, one with exact to the left and the other with fare to the left. Behind the coin is a fare indictor in black, pale blue and white. Tonal pale blue and black panel surround the image to the left, right and footer. The Transport for London logo is in pale blue to the right of helps. The background is white.
The eighth poster advertises transport enquiry services and features the slogan 'We're here to help' and the right header in red, with informational text below in black. The image has been created by changing the red circle of Transport for London's logo into a question mark with a blue dot and retaining the blue horizontal bar of the logo. The background is white. Mounted on board, 1978. Measures, 101cm by 62.5cm.
The ninth item is advertising buses with the slogan 'SEE LONDON BY BUS' at a vertical with the first two words in blue and the last two in red. Below is the outline of London Transport logo in red. Above is the image, a grey and black set of binoculars in block colours with the body formed of two old illustrations of London in black on a blue background thus giving a collage effect. The main background is white. Measures, 101.7cm by 63.6cm.
There is also a Transport for London and The London Museum [previous name of the Museum of London] poster, signed by Eckersley to promote the Museum and the public transport links to it. Informational text is at the footer is black except the first words, 'THE LONDON MUSEUM', in red and the last sentence, also in red giving tube and bus names next to a red outline logo for London Transport, c1955. The image is a stylised closed carriage with passenger and driver is block colours of brown, black, white, red and pink on a mint wash background. Mounted on board. Measures, 101.4cm by 63.6cm. There is also a further poster (digital copy only) advertising Visitor's London, a London Transport tourist guidebook. The poster features a profile view of a guard, in ceremonial dress. Alongside Eckersley's signature, this is dated '76.
