TitlePrint education
DescriptionThis series contains records related to mid-twentieth century print education, including series on print methods and material related to his work as an Inspector of Education. This includes pamphlets and articles on print education in England, print, newspaper and typography samples from the 16th to the 20th century and samples from all over Europe, the US and Canada.

The series "Print Methods and History" hold records about printing history, local and foreign printing innovations and printing methods collected during Pickering's time as a student and lecturer at various printing schools. This includes articles on colour theory, photo composition, lithography and mounting systems and paper samples.

The series "Inspection Materials" features Charles Pickering's records related to his work as an Inspector of Education (HMI) after 1949, including minutes, course information, leaflets and school assessments authored by Pickering.

The series also holds the Industrial Training Act 1964, photographs and articles of the exhibition "IPEX-Training for Tomorrow", course information, graduation ceremony leaflets, student manuals and guides of printing schools; correspondence, leaflets, minutes and bulletins related to the Institute of Printing, the Ministry of Education, the City and Guilds of London Institute and the Printing and Publishing Industry Training Board (PPITB), dinner menus, conference invitations and photos of Pickering. Newspaper articles related to the Second World War, especially the impact of bombing on train routes and war propaganda can also be discovered.

The series print education contains two series within its structure because the records of these two series (print methods and history and inspection materials) overlapped considerably with the overarching series print education in terms of their content. The series form an intellectual segment because all the records within the series relate to Charles London Pickering's dedication towards improving printing education in England and staying on top oflocal and foreign developments in the printing industry.
