DescriptionThis series contains letters, scripts, notes, budget papers, reports, press cuttings, press releases, publications, memoranda, film and other event programmes, distribution and budget papers, invitations, and receipts, for the period Dickinson was living in New York whilst working as Chief of Film for the United Nations, 1956-1960.

[In 1956 Dickinson was appointed Chief of Film for the United Nations' Department of Public Information, the intention of which was for Dickinson to change the direction of U.N. films, making them more about events and ideas with a perspective, rather than simply making informational films. Dickinson supervised a number of U.N. films, including 'Out', 'Blue Vanguard', 'Overture', and 'Power Among Men.' These films attempt to communicate and highlight to the world various issues and crises taking place, such as the Suez Crisis, the plight of refugees, the pain and suffering caused by famine and war, as well as internationsal relief work and efforts to deal with those crises.

Dickinson's position as Chief of Film was not only to direct or supervise the production of films, it also carried with it the role of promotor, communicator and liasor, therefore having to attend various meetings and events. In addition, Dickinson kept his ties with various film organisations in the United Kingdom, as well as elsewhere [See TD/3/8 and TD/3/11]. Dickinson left the U.N. in 1960 when his 4 year contract expired after deciding not to renew it.]
