Title | National Business Calendar Award posters |
Description | The Awards were sponsored by the College and the British Printing Industries Federation and ran from 1968 until the present day. The competition attracts approximately 300-350 calendar entries each year. From 1978-1983 the Awards were held in the Kodak Photographic Gallery [previously held in Reed House, London], London, annually in February. They were then held at a range of London galleries and from 1994 they were held at the College [and still are]. Each one is signed by Eckersley.
They contain the same information: the name of the award; the location of the showing; the dates of the showing; and the use of primary colours. The posters for 1976, 1978, 1979, 1987 and 1990 have the date represented in block primary colours on white backgrounds as the central design. The others have a bold central design, Eckersley has taken a simple image such as a flower, or trumpets and broken it into a number of block primary colour shapes and constructed the shapes back into the image, this is done for: 1977; 1980; 1981; 1982; 1983; 1986; 1991; 1992; 1993; 1994; 1995; 1996; and 1997. The poster for 1989 celebrates twenty one years of the Award, the central design is a 21, the 1 is represented by a candle in gold and red on a white background. There is also the judges report for 1992 and 1993 [both featuring the same design on the cover], a handbill sized poster for 1980 with the same design as the main poster and one for 1984, in the same style as the other posters.
