Individual or organisational biographyProfessor Teal Triggs was born in the United States and has a background in Graphic Design, American Studies and Art History. Teal Triggs completed her PhD in 2006 at the University of Reading, where her thesis was on the subject of the graphic language of British fanzines. Professor Triggs is an educator, historian and writer, with her research focussed primarily on graphic design history, design research methods, self-publishing and feminism. Triggs is currently Associate Dean in the School of Communication at the Royal College of Art. Prior to joining the RCA, Teal was Director of Information Environments (IE), Course Director for MA Design Criticism, and Head of Research at the School of Graphic Design, London College of Communication, University of the Arts, London.

Teal Triggs has lectured internationally and her writings have been published in a myriad of design journals and publications around the world.

In 2005 Teal Triggs organised the 2-day 'New Views' Symposium - an event that focused on taking a fresh look at Graphic Design History and its relationship to design education and professional practise. Speakers and delegates came from across the globe. The symposium was a way of sharing new views from a wide range of different backgrounds and disciplines. It was held at the London College of Communication, Elephant and Castle.

Teal Triggs is a Fellow of the Royal College of Art, Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts and Manufacture (FRSA) and of the International Society for Typographic Designers (FiSTD). Teal is founding editor of the Journal of Communication Design and co-editor with Leslie Atzmon, of The Graphic Design Reader. Triggs has received several AHRC (Arts and Humanities Research Council) grants for her work on design, feminism, and comic books.

In 2009 Professor Triggs was awarded the Dar Al Hekma Prize for her contribution and achievements in the field of Graphic Design. Triggs' forthcoming book (2015) entitled 'The Graphic Design Reader' is co-edited with Professor Leslie Atzmon.
